Think We Could Manifest THAT?

Leslie is a successful, hard-working artist and friend. It’s good to see her and her husband doing something really special for themselves. Could they ask for more?

On vacation in Switzerland, Ron and I took the train from Bern to Zermatt. When we walked to the hotel, it was a cold rain cold rain but Inside was a warm, sweet little lobby with sheepskin blankets on chairs and a comfy room with bookshelves. We waited for the people from Arkansas and another couple from Ireland to check in and drop their bags since it’s 11am and too early for rooms to be ready. They challenged the woman at the desk when she asked for passports and a credit card to hold for possible damages. She was polite. As they finished, I stepped to the counter.

Ok, I gotta back this up just a sec to yesterday when I booked this room. (Yes we’re poor planners and I just booked the last two legs of our journey during our siesta at the hotel in Bern yesterday. ) As I was booking this room, a thought came to me. “Wouldn’t it be nice if because I’m booking at the last minute, if we get lucky and they give us a room upgrade?” That’s silly, I know.

Back to the patient woman at the desk. Turns out she is from Bulgaria and her name is Asia (like Oss-ee-ah) and she misses her family back home. I greeted her warmly and commented how warm and beautiful the lobby is. I asked if it would be ok to leave our bags, if not too much trouble for her. She seemed delighted and set us up. We gave her our passports and credit card for check-in. By this time, the other people had left. As we set the bags down, she said “Oh, and good news! We have a room upgrade for you!” My eyes welled slightly as I smiled and thanked her profusely.

For the next couple days, we enjoyed the feeling of our “upgrade” status and treated ourselves in small ways: like swimming in the heated pool at the hotel and exploring the spa…things I never do. I even made time to just lounge in a bathrobe after sitting in the sauna. These things seem like luxuries to me, because I rarely take time to pamper myself. I’m a worker bee. Asia’s kind gesture has been well received a with much gratitude.

And even though the rainy weather continued the next day, we got to see at least most of the Matterhorn. After hiking to see it in the cold wind, we were happy to return to our comfy hotel room and enjoy dinner takeout while we watched the clouds over the Matterhorn from our covered balcony (this view was part of the “deluxe” package, of course!)
