My Thoughts Did Exactly What I Told Them To Do, Ug!
Our thoughts are always creating, particularly when we are repeating them. Thoughts will act on so-called big or trivial things – whatever our mind focuses on. Here’s an interesting story with J’s thoughts creating unwanted consequences. Learn more by listening to my online interviews or get the book. Make things happen in the way YOU want them to.

About 15 years ago, I was living in a part of the country where there were a lot of people who are vegan and they were very strict about it. My associates at work were kind of getting on my back for being an omnivore which means eating meat and vegetables, basically everything, and I got a little tired of them always being on me about it.
I knew I wasn’t going to change my eating habits for them. I had already tried going vegan and it failed miserably for me, so I knew I wouldn’t go back and do that again. Instead of telling them no thanks, I started telling them that I was allergic to beans and legumes, which I wasn’t. Back then, vegans typically used all different kinds of legumes like peanuts as their protein source. My allergy response usually put them off so I kept telling them over and over again that I was allergic to beans, I was allergic to beans, even though I wasn’t. Yes, I lied but I got them to back off.
Lo and behold, 10 years have passed since then and I have to confess that about 5 years ago, I started developing an allergy to peanuts. I was in my early to mid 40s at the time and it is pretty unusual at that age to develop an allergy to something like that that. Then another year or two later, I started developing allergies to all legumes including green beans and peas, so I have been living with this for years now.
Just a few months ago this summer I realized that holy cow, I actually talked myself into this allergy all those years ago! There was never an allergy like this in my family at all, so there was no basis for it. I knew in that moment that I had made it happen, so I started trying to undo it and actually, it’s been successful so far.
What I keep repeating to myself instead of being allergic to beans is something like, “Now I can eat beans freely and healthfully,” and, “Now I no longer react to legumes at all.” It’s beginning to turn around now so I can eat little bit of legumes like soy or almond green beans without having a reaction. I’m going to continue to work on that and make it better so I don’t have to worry at all about consuming beans of any kind.
Thoughts are powerful and I did this to myself. I will just as powerfully undo it and thankfully, I am already seeing the results.
